(Reuters Health) - Diabetes medications and blood-test supplies are sold, traded...

- Diabetes medications and blood-test supplies are sold, traded and donated on black markets because the U.S. healthcare system isn’t meeting patients’ needs, a study shows.

“It is important for healthcare providers and policymakers to understand what people are doing to support diabetes management when faced with medication and supply access issues,” said study leader Michelle Litchman of the University of Utah College of Nursing in Salt Lake City. In early 2019, the researchers surveyed 159 people who were involved in online diabetes communities, including patients and caregivers. They asked questions about underground exchange activities, access to healthcare and difficulty in purchasing diabetes items from standard sources.

“The current healthcare situation in the United States is substandard for many people with chronic disease,” said Mary Rogers of the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, who wasn’t involved in the study.

'Richest country in the world'

SecAzar SeemaCMS any thoughts on this?

This is a huge, immediate problem. I know seniors who have to pay out of pocket for insulin and it's either choose death or choose skipping a utility bill each month. She's now facing homelessness. It's absolutely sickening.

This has been known for quite some time, the sheer unaffordability of the healthcare system as a whole.

This is shamefull. I've been told America is number 1 my whole life but this is allowed to happen.

I thought they traveled to Canada because the medicine is alot cheaper and its the same medicine that they buy in the usa but for much more...

Most of them voted for Trump to repeal Obama Care because he was a black Muslim, they said.

russian bots everywhere peppering the pres with applause for the ghettofied american pie served up cold, covered in flies on a trash can lid. I've waited 20+ years for cannabis, go figure we'll push legal meds into the black market while the tv advertises gibberish future drugs.

The risk of black market insulin vs no insulin is obvious to those with type 1 diabetes& no insurance.

All diabetics are victims of the insulin industry whose sponsored physicians demand that glucose levels have to be lowered with ever higher insulin doses despite sky high insulin (HI) levels. This worsening of HI causes all diabetes- and obesitas-related illnesses and deaths.

Incredibly unfortunate.

What why ?

1. Walmart sells meters for cheap 2. Reli-on insulin 24.00 a bottle at walmart The illusion of synthetic insulin is sickening. The pens pictured above are expensive (and wasteful) even if insured. Use common sense. Dont buy the bullshit.
