KUALA LUMPUR: A deputy managing director of Datasonic Group Berhad told the High Court here today that he would not have recommended the company contribute RM6 million in political funds to Barisan Nasional if Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was not the deputy prime minister and the home minister then.

“Zahid also told me that he was impressed with DGB because of its performance and he also said that the general election was approaching and talked about the political situation in the country then,” Chew said when reading out his witness statement during examination-in-chief by deputy public prosecutor Gan Peng Kun.

“What came to my mind then was that BN needed money for the election. I then asked Zahid whether Hanifah and I could provide political funds to BN and how much was needed.
