A sweeping debt freeze will be used to shield Australians from an economic slump under federal plans to allow companies to 'hibernate' during the coronavirus crisis with help from banks and big business

The Prime Minister said some employers would have to close their doors during the shutdowns ordered this week but should be able to defer repayments so they could reopen as soon as the crisis passed.

The measures include support from states and territories on managing commercial and residential tenancies, amid property industry warnings of a cash flow crisis when people cannot afford to pay their rents. The major banks have also said they will defer small business repayments for six months, in a move that will cost them $8 billion over the period.

Mr Morrison has not rejected a wage subsidy but has criticised the UK approach on the grounds it could be slow to create a new system.Deloitte Access Economics said Australia faced a "whatever it takes" moment that would require large scale, new, and unconventional fiscal and monetary policies to survive the downturn.

Where’s all of this money coming from? America3 thrillion, France 1/2 Trillion, Australia so many billions etc. prior to this virus pandemic the Western world was bankrupt.

Got a handout from God eh ScoMo?

See all these people that have been put into hotels in Sydney are complaining..Give me a break you selfless people how dare you complain ...

How do banks make arrangements with landlords who do not have a mortgage? All renters, commercial & residential need to pay at the very least 50% of their rent or move out so someone who can unwillingly pay does pay. Landlords should not be the victims in all this.

Another stimulus?!🤬Enough w your trial & error stuff-ups! If u just gave $1k each Aussie adult the 1st time, it'd have moved the economy a bit. Always late & always mediocre. NZ had $$ in laid-off workers' bank accts in 2 days. 2 days!!You can't beat that ScottyFromMarketing 🦠

political_alert And mortgages? The banks will continue to charge interest, not just give a break on payments, if your bank agrees to suspend mortgage payments. Homes are rented or bought. Rent and mortgage stress relief is required. Homelessness is a threat for renters and home mortgage holders.

Derrp

Does that mean renters have to pay balance later or is that not at all for that time period? Sorry I’m a bit thick and can’t make head or tail out if it.

And who will protect public housing tenants from government policies which allow income to be absorbed by rent increases?
