FRANKFURT - Volkswagen’s chief executive called for a broad stimulus package to revive the auto industry and the economy even as he defended the carmaker’s intention to pay a dividend. “We need consumption, the economy needs to get moving again and an opportunity, perhaps the best opportunity is the car,” Herbert Diess told German television ZDF, adding that replacing older cars with more efficient ones would also cut pollution.

Diess reiterated the carmaker’s intention to pay a dividend for 2019 but said the company would consider cutting bonuses and shrinking the dividend if the carmaker ended up taking state aid. But for now VW wants to cope without state aid and the carmaker intends to manage through he crisis without tapping state aid,” Diess said.

Wait how much do these executives have in savings If a person with a local auto garage gets a bad hand because the pandemic do they get a stimulus? Have these executives liquidate some assets and save their own damn company.

Did the company's high level have its gigantic wages reduced?

ahhh socialism

Nope.

Those cars are crap after awhile anyway. Why bother?

They already got a bailout from Obama! You can only claim bankruptcy once so you should only get a bailout once!

How times are car makers going to need a bailout?

Electric vehicles?

Again

Coming out of this, the last thing I’d be doing is buying a new car, that can wait a couple of yrs.

Is he wearing a mask for his clean diesel?
