VMware is acquiring the cybersecurity startup Octarine as it bets big on Google-created Kubernetes technology, and it could help attract more developers

"We really wanted to focus on the best tech," Morley said. "We didn't want a new platform to bring in and absorb. That's what we found with Octarine. They're a very strong team...They're not a huge team, but it's very strategic."

"It will give them interesting technology to interact with their core products," Chandrasekaran told Business Insider. "That's how I would think about it."The process for acquiring Octarine began just before much of the coronavirus outbreak happened, Morley says. Still, most of it ended up being conducted remotely.

While tech companies are unlikely to reopen their offices by the time the deal closes by early summer, Morley says onboarding Octarine remotely also shouldn't be an issue.
