An Instagram influencer's guide to negotiating a brand sponsorship and what contract terms to watch out for

A gifted campaign is when a brand asks the influencer if it can send a free product in exchange for promotion. Gifted campaigns have some restrictions and influencers will be asked to sign a contract before receiving the product.

Tosone recommended looking over the scope of work that is being asked, like deliverables, before negotiating a price. "If they say we are looking to get this many clicks on your affiliate link or, it would be great to see this many Swipe Ups, think about what you have to do to get that interaction from your audience," Tosone said.

In-feed post on Instagram: A photo about the brand or product posted on Instagram's main feed. Brands will usually ask to approve the photo, Tosone said. If the brand can't meet your rate for a YouTube video, you could try to negotiate the deliverables to something with less lift, like an Instagram Story swipe up with a Tweet and Facebook post, Tosone said.

Some brands will include in the contract agreement that the influencer can't work with any other brands in that category for a specific period of time – typically 1 to 3 months .
