SUPP Central Youth chairman Michael Tiang said the project costing RM2mil would be built under the 12th Malaysia Plan. Most of the traders are using canopies to conduct their business now.

However, there are some, especially native traders, who are trading out in the open without a canopy. Tiang, who visited the market, said for business to prosper here, traders must be given a conducive environment.“Once the shade is built, the tamu can become a permanent affair and be held seven days a week instead of just on weekends only,” he said.Tiang, who is also political secretary to the Chief Minister, said as a result the economy would also grow.

“There are a lot of residents in this area and this place can become a new township. This is the long-term plan,” he said during a site visit to get feedback from the traders, business owners and the public on the new site.
