Headline is misleading..tuition is not 35K - secondly what is the price if the entire school has to shutdown. NEU spent a ton getting the school ready to open.

Talk about looting

Yes it will once the school gets sued out the ass.

Give their money back! This stinks of s lawsuit

I understand expelling them for violating the rules, but non-refundable tuition ? Really? Always gotta go for the grift smh

Wild.

Lawsuits. Give me my money back!

Actions have consequences.

Officer, I’d like to report a crime.

Northwestern Tuition Team

That pays the salary of 1.5 provosts, the university needs it!

kathrynw5 Northeastern University saved the city of Boston lots of lives, and Boston hospitals lots of money and resources... thank you Northeastern University...

oops

Looks like the rules apply to kids who can afford schools like that too. Nice change of pace.

Unconsciousable

That's theft. Outright theft. Administration needs to make policies with *real people* in mind, not some hypothetical perfect person. To blame these literal teenagers for not being perfect and then steal $36,000 from them is just absolute scumbag behaviour from Northeastern

The real criminal is this private university taking advantage of what we all know are dumb ass kids during a pandemic when the campus shouldn’t have been open in the first place

If only schools were this serious about about sexual assault and harassment

As a parent I would sue Northeastern. I would put every penny I have into it.

Us universities treat Chinese spies better than americans

kathrynw5 Should put them isolation for 14 days first. If all of them are clear, it would be a warning to remind them not to do it again. That would be much more effective. That is an Academic learning environment. Northeastern

Does this mean KwikTrip will now be getting fines for allowing maskless customers in Minnesota locations? Assholes.

... That is theft. You can withdrawal passing after mid terms and not get billed for that semester. You can't fine 18 year olds $35k to be petty. What the fuck?

DAMN Ouch

kathrynw5 Would result in a lawsuit and college paying back. But will act as deterrent in the meantime.

morgfair ...harsh.. I'm ok with harsh.. really.

YES!

11 people in a dorm used to be standard now if it happens you lose everything. Putting a bunch of kids in one area and telling them not to hang out is ridiculous IMO nobody in their shoes would make it. Just bait so the school can blame students instead of taking accountability

this is messed up they should at least get an online option.

This was sent to every student. With that said, I personally believe an online option should have been available. Keep their housing money.

lmfaooo

That is bs. Give them back their tuition. This is NEW to all of us and we have to learn how to maneuver our way through this. Dismissing them is punishment enough. That’s devastating to a young adult starting out in life. We need to encourage compassion for 1 another.

Good!

Actions have consequences.

They're all idiots, but I would refund their tuition.

As they should've. They signed a contract that let them be there stating they would follow all the rules and guidelines. They violated the rules and guidelines, so they lose ability to be there anymore.

Completely ridiculous. These are 18 yr old kids that broke the rules, fine you want to expel them whatever. These universities cannot be allowed to take people’s money for this. They should not be able to behave like fortune 500 companies. Disgusting.

I'm perfectly okay with them kicking them out. But keeping their money is wrong. The school year JUST started they should get no less than 50% refund. I'd sue.

Ok but no they're owed their all or most of their tuition back. Colleges make enough money as is

Sally0989

What did they think would happen? I don’t blame the students, I blame the University! Which should have never brought the students to campus. They shouldn’t lose their tuition. Unconscionable.

Contracts. It’s a thing.

Good.

99.99% survive in this age group.

It’s not funny but I accidentally laughed

People in these comments act like they pulled this decision out their ass. They told them plain as fucking day the rules for being on campus and the consequences of violating them and now it “Woo, is me.” Funny how it’s the law and order types bitching and moaning. FOH

Well...I guess they can party all they want now since they won’t be in college this semester? 🤷🏾‍♂️

Good

THIS IS A EGREGIOUS!!! NO REIMBURSEMENT!? ROBBERY!! Northeastern THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

That's not right. The students should be kicked out. The parents should have the tuition pro rated and returned. The University will end spending more in defense funds because those parents are going to sue. The school is trying to get as much $$$ as they can b4 shutting down

Good example. Maybe now other dumbbells will comply.

Those kids should of followed the rules but I’d be pressing charges against the school. You can’t just take $30,000 from kids lmao

Good.

Wow.

Wow👀

Wow 30k down the drain for that?! Crazy

Good.

Uh oh! This is sure to trigger some MAGATs! 🤣

Financial penalty is just making an example out of them. School is assuming that risk by opening. They saw this coming a mile away. I’m sure this is also selective enforcement. This is why I support “Freedom for Individual Rights in Education” (TheFIREorg). Northeastern

Keeping all of the tuition and not granting these student online only access is egregious.

Somewhere a molatov cocktail is waiting for the Bursars Office.

Oh man, if I were their parents I’d be mad at them!

What? Fuck off. Colleges need to get with it. Less and less needed.

These colleges are fucking vicious thieves.

Somewhere Darwin is smiling
