ICYMI: 5G iPhones arrive, headphones and chargers not included — we lay out our biggest takeaways from Apple's annual iPhone event

new flagships with the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, a new budget device in the iPhone 12 mini, and the new standard-bearer iPhone 12.Here are our three biggest takeaways regarding the new iPhones:

Apple's decision to produce chips in-house is paying performance dividends, but many users likely won't notice the difference. All of the iPhones announced today Apple's A14 Bionic chip, the first commercially available smartphone chip manufactured using the 5nm standard. This unlocks considerable performance capabilities since 5nm allows for more transistors to be fitted on a chip than the 7nm standard.

The budget-friendly iPhone 12 mini will likely sell more units than any of the other devices unveiled today. The iPhone 12 mini starts at $699, considerably cheaper than the iPhone 12 , iPhone 12 Pro , and iPhone 12 Pro Max . It is somewhat surprising that the price gap is so large considering the iPhone 12 mini features the same A14 Bionic chip and 5G capabilities as all the other new devices. The most obvious downside , is the smaller 5.4-inch display.
