In the wake of an outcry over the destruction of the 46,000-year-old Juukan caves in the Pilbara, a subsidiary of Rio Tinto is locked in mediation with the Federal Government over funding for scientific monitoring of a Kakadu uranium mine.

The Ranger Uranium Mine in Kakadu is looming as the next great test of mining giant Rio Tinto, following the international outcry over the destruction of the 46,000-year-old Juukan caves in the Pilbara.

More than 40 scientists have been partially funded by the Ranger Uranium Mine for decades and are charged with researching and understanding the environmental impact of the mine, which lies just outside the boundary of the Kakadu National Park. "If they can't achieve what they promised at Ranger, it has huge implications, not only for the uranium industry but also for the entire mining industry," he said.

"We need the science to be done because we need to monitor for years to make sure we understand all of the complex aspects [of the mine's legacy] such as the revegetation and ecosystems, the cultural land uses for the Mirrar [Indigenous traditional owners], as well as things like the aquatic ecosystems and radiation levels."

Whilst Reconciliation Australia revoked the endorsement of RioTinto. AFL snubbed its nose at the promise to'fight racism on and off the field', by maintaining its Corporate Partnership with this disgraced miner! To combat racism & environmental damage, both need to be accountable!

Arseholes are good they have a use this company is one but doesn't have one they don't care where their waste goes and should NEVER have been in Kakadu, get out after you put the place back the way it was exactly.
