Amazon did not reply to Business Insider's questions about how corporate office-based workers such as cleaning staff, security, and food service workers would be impacted by the update.
The company's approach with office employees has stood in contrast to its policies concerning its warehouse workers and delivery drivers, which it considers to be essential "frontline" workers. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Amazon has required that frontline workers continue to do their jobs in person unless showing symptoms of COVID-19, testing positive, or being ordered to quarantine by public health authorities, despite complaints from workers about inadequate health and safety measures.
