GEORGE TOWN: A 26-year-old woman who was supposed to fulfil her 14-day mandatory quarantine for Covid-19 has been spotted at a public market in Relau near here on Wednesday (Nov 4).

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Soffian Santong said the woman was spotted trying to enter the market by a team from the north-east district health department during a standard operating procedure spot check in the area.

“The subject is a person under surveillance who lives in Paya Terubong and works at a factory in Bayan Lepas, ” he said in a statement on Wednesday .He added a police report has been lodged by the district health department and the woman has been handed over to the department for further action. State Health Department director Dr Asmayani Khalib said the woman would be slapped with a compound if investigations confirm that she had violated her quarantine order.
