BlackRock says the pandemic should prompt investors to completely rethink how they construct portfolios — and shares its 11 top recommendations for a 'new investment order' in 2021

"We have entered a new investment order," BlackRock Vice Chairman Philipp Hildebrand and BlackRock Investment Institute Head Jean Boivin wrote in their 2021 global outlook report. Hildebrand and Boivin listed three themes investors ought to watch out for in 2021, and shared 11 portfolio recommendations for the short and long terms.

According to top brass at BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager with $7.8 trillion under its management, investors should also be adopting this mindset as the world enters 2021 a changed place compared to a year ago. "We have entered a new investment order," BlackRock Vice Chairman Philipp Hildebrand and Investment Institute Head Jean Boivin wrote in their 2021 global outlook report.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated profound shifts in how economies and societies operate," they added. "We see transformations across sustainability, inequality, geopolitics and macro policy."
