Opinion | Just because Trump is leaving the White House doesn't mean the threat of authoritarianism is over. By peony_hirwani.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and President Donald Trump inside the demilitarized zone separating the South and North Korea on June 30, 2019 in Panmunjom, South Korea.President Donald Trump has long been called an authoritarian and compared with authoritarian leaders. His loss to President-elect Joe Biden begs the question: what becomes of authoritarianism in a post-Trump world?

"Even when President-elect Biden takes office in January 2021, the forces that helped bring Trump to power just four years ago are here to stay and will remain a challenge for democracy in America," Michael Becher, assistant professor of political science at the IE School of Global and Public Affairs told Insider. This is an opinion column. The thoughts expressed are those of the author.

As president, Trump displayed authoritarian behavior on multiple occasions. Right off the bat, he depicted his rivals as hoodlums and the media as adversaries. Even at the end of his presidency, Trump has refused to accept the clear results of the 2020 election. The US has faced a super-heated political atmosphere throughout the last four years that has given rise to Trump's authoritarian tendencies and emboldened strong-armed, authoritarian leaders like Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un.

peony_hirwani Yes, Dems love the surveillance state

peony_hirwani Not in this country! We will continue to resist authoritarianism.

peony_hirwani Biden is authoritative. Redistribution of wealth, high taxes, masks for 2021. Soon it will be like in Germany where you’re not able to safe $, and stay in an unhappy job forever. You can’t study again because university is free and you can only study once.

peony_hirwani Leaving?

peony_hirwani Or, that he's stopped working for Putin.

peony_hirwani Kim, the only boss who does not congratulate Biden. He has true love with Trump.
