Australia's timber industry is calling for government assistance in a bid to save jobs and mill closures in the wake of Chinese trade sanctions. Beijing has banned exports from New South Wales and Western Australia, claiming live forest pests were found inside shipments.

Earlier this year timber from Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania were also banned. Australia’s annual log and wood chip exports to China are worth $1.6 billion. China’s sanctions on the industry are the latest blow for Australian exporters after restrictions were placed on wine, barley, beef, lobsters and coal.

JamesCh31927690 Time to decouple from China. Don’t rely on one single market. Don’t let CCP leads Australia

shiroihamusan No coal no energy in China. No timber no toilet paper in China. 😆

But more importantly, you should find a reliable, or at least credible trade partner!

The world should take communism out completely Why do business with people that don’t honour contracts?

Although it's the mistakes made by companies and relying too much on China cause the result, it's great chance to DecoupleFromChina, and even better with a little help from the govt, like Japan is doing

Or maybe have the government open our own timber factory for processing our own wood here. Maybe do the same with steel O font know just a thought lol

How about being happy that we dont have to cut down so many of Australian forests and trees!!.

Considering clearing in the timber industry has increased over 1000% in the last few years due to the LNP, so where did all their profits go if they're asking for bail out money already? But let's be honest... Guess how many asking for free money are LNP donors?

News Corp/SKY ....this sounds like a typical knee jerk for an industry the gets most of its logs from public owned land. Bit shy on details on why they need to justify a handout. Australian wood product imports are twice than we export.

Australian govt only interested in US political needs. ScottMorrisonMP put the Australian economy into this predicament when it sabotaged our trade with China...

boycot china !!!!!!
