Venture-capital firms have invested $40 billion in companies developing automated-driving technology since 2000, according to Pitchbook.

Insider analyzed Pitchbook data to determine which VC firms have made the most investments in autonomous driving. Trucks Venture Capital took the top spot, with 20 investments in startups working on self-driving tech.The race to develop self-driving cars has attracted a slew of investments from venture capitalists hoping to find the next breakout startup. According to Pitchbook, VC firms have invested a total of $40 billion into companies developing automated-driving technology since 2000.the autonomous-vehicle market will grow to $550 billion by 2026.

Insider looked at data compiled by Pitchbook to determine which VC firms have been the most active investors in the autonomous-vehicle world. Below are the 12 VC firms that have made the greatest number of investments in companies that are developing automated-driving technology. Pitchbook's data includes investments in firms whose primary business lies outside of autonomy, like Nio and Lyft, that are also working on automated-driving tech.
