MELAKA: Following the Covid-19 pandemic, a hotel F&B director decided to give up his job and took up the challenge of opening his own restaurant at Tengkera here.

Feeter Francis said as the tourism sector and hotel industry were badly impacted, his previous employer decided to cut headcount through a retrenchment exercise in September.

"There were only very limited positions available and I volunteered to go on my own, albeit with a heavy heart, '' he said in an interview on Wednesday . The 56-year-old started out as a waiter in the 1980s before working his way up to become F&B director.Francis said his wife and three children were supportive of his decision to quit and even encouraged him to venture into a small business."I knew failure was not an option. This was the one and only chance for me to realise my dream of managing my own food outlet.
