Foods containing high sugar, salt, or fat content will not be allowed to be advertised on TV before 9 p.m., with online advertisements also facing restrictions

“We are committed to improving the health of our children and tackling obesity,” said Jo Churchill, the public health minister. “The content youngsters see can have an impact on the choices they make and the habits they form. With children spending more time online, it is vital we act to protect them from unhealthy advertising.”

Restrictions will also not apply to certain foods that are high in fat, salt, or sugar if they are not seen to be contributing to childhood obesity, the U.K. Department of Health said.
