BERLIN, July 6 — Californian investment firm Platinum Equity is to acquire US water treatment company Solenis, part-owned by the German chemicals giant BASF, for US$5.25 billion , BASF said today.

Solenis, which makes specialist chemicals used in the water and paper treatment industries, is 49-per cent owned by BASF and 51 per cent by the Clayton, Dubilier & Rice private equity fund. BASF and Clayton, Dubilier & Rice will now “fully exit their investment in Solenis”, with full ownership passing to Platinum Equity.
