KOTA KINABALU: Businesses within the construction industry must seize the opportunity to get their workers vaccinated against Covid-19 when the Construction Industry Vaccination Programme or CIVac starts in Sabah on Aug 19.

Sabah Real Estate and Developers Association president Datuk Chua Soon Ping said ongoing projects will be given priority under CIVac so that work can resume after their workers are vaccinated.

“All local and foreign workers as well as construction professionals like architects, engineers and surveyors are included and so is the rest of the supply chain of building material suppliers,” he said in a statement on Thursday . He said this would help speed up vaccinations towards achieving herd immunity, and also allow the treatment of patients to be done in a more conducive environment.

On vaccination, Chua said success in achieving herd immunity as well as getting the economy back on track will depend on fast-tracking inoculation and using all available venues to administer shots.Chua said PPVs attract several thousand people a day and could expose recipients to infection, so more mobile units and private clinics should be employed to assist in the process.
