This is according to analysts who on Tuesday said government must change the rules and regulations that shape the way the country’s economy functions so that it grows much faster and creates jobs far more rapidly. These sentiments come after the release of the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey by Statistics SA on Tuesday.

Matthew Kofi Ocran, the University of the Western Cape economics professor, said while minimum wage legislation is important to safeguard the interests of workers, it needs to be crafted in a way that provides exemptions for labour-intensive industries.
