The closure involved 159 stalls within the market area but food hawkers at an adjacent complex were not affected.

It said sanitisation, disinfection and cleaning would be conducted at the market by the Fire and Rescue Department.

Meanwhile, the first day of the Community Vaccine Mobilisation programme for hawkers and petty traders saw 2,569 individuals from five districts in Penang being inoculated. “We urge more hawkers to register with the local councils and come to the programme location for their jabs against Covid-19.“We want to give confidence to the hawkers and traders to continue their daily economic activities.”A total of 10 modified buses will be used.
