This week, the youngest respondents—between age 18 and 34—saw the largest dip in jobs confidence, from 65.6 to just above 59. And younger workers who have remained employed may not be pleased with their career progress. “Many [younger workers] do not feel they will achieve the same level of financial success and independence as did their parents,” says Richard Wahlquist, president and CEO of the American Staffing Association. Lackluster pay rates for entry-level workers may also be driving some of this group’s sentiment, he says.
