SIBU: A 40-year-old salesman has lost RM54,800 in an investment scam, police say.

Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Maria Rasid said in a statement on Wednesday that the victim came across an advertisement for an investment scheme while browsing Facebook on Aug 24.

"Two days later, he received a message through WhatsApp from a man who identified himself as Jason," she said. "When he visited the website, the victim found that the page looked similar to a Shopee account," she added.
