Gov. Murphy gave a nod to the state's nascent cannabis industry in two high profile speeches as a big economic engine for the Garden State.

In both his State of the State address and second inaugural speech this month, Gov. Phil Murphy stated he looked forward to the number of jobs the cannabis industry will create in New Jersey.

Seven days earlier, in his State of the State address, Murphy said of adult-use cannabis: “Many jobs await in the cannabis industry to take off.” Others have estimated the new industry has the potential to create tens of thousands of jobs, including those in cultivation, manufacturing, distribution and sales, among others.

The Cannabis Regulatory Commission was set up last year to provide the regulatory framework for the industry, including awarding licenses through a competitive application process that’s underway. The CRC’s next public meeting is Jan. 27. It is scheduled to open applications for dispensary licenses on March 15.

“Gov. Murphy knows what we hope most, if not all municipal leadership understands: the regulated cannabis industry can be an economic engine for physical redevelopment, job training, and job creation,” added DeVeaux.

Build the infrastructure already, Jesus Christ

Yet here it is beyond the January deadline the CRC has done literally nothing but waste time and money, it won't even be for sale until the end of his term

That's a good thing?

Great! Why not?

it's gonna be overregulated and overtaxed so it will be a failure

Is there anywhere you can buy it now without a medical card?

If it ever gets up and running!

There would actually need to be dispensaries open for it to fuel anything.

We can all be doped up and maybe those who aren’t vaccinated yet will do it!!

Legalizing marijuana isn't going to do jack shit for prosperity of small-minded Republican lead towns that have already passed legislation banning any type of sale within town limits. I'm looking at you Bernardsville.

Well duh!

The Blue State VS Red State difference, one drags their feet, the other has the program up in 3 months

Did he promise legalized MJ 4 years ago? It took a referendum from the people to say legalize it! Now 2 years later and still nothing codified and no sales. murphyisajoke njdeservesbetter recallmurphy

He promised recreational cannabis in his “first 100 days” and here we are, day 1,470, into his SECOND TERM which he narrowly won and there has yet to be a recreational dispensary transaction. What an absolute joke this guy. More focused on masks in schools.

Just like: Lotteries Gambling Now POT! How about stopping the foolish spending Too Much Town Home Rule Too many - PD, FD Chiefs, School Superintendents, Principals, VP's, Business Administrators & Town Clerks making Big 6 figures 31 Abbott School Districts More Federal Aid

Needs to go hand in hand with criminal justice reform. Release those jailed on marijuana charges

Which industry? The nacho industry?

No it won’t - they are too busy regulating it.

It’s been proven in multiple states that tax revenue from Cannabis is non existent. Stop believing all these lies that are coming from the state. Only the private investors will profit from this….

Who is he trying to kid here? There are no legal cannabis sales happening yet and no sign of it starting anytime soon. Legalization was passed in 2020 and the do nothings over at CRC have been dangling carrots in our face even since. What an absolute joke.

Some day. Soon. We can only hope. NJGov AND BRING THE PRICES DOWN LIKE NEIGHBORING STaTES

It definitely will, but in towns that allow it! republican towns don't want it for some reason. They are scared of it or whatever lol.

They’ve made the process very difficult. While Murph says that they are looking at groaning small business, women led, and minority businesses, the amount of work, hoops, restrictions, and capital needed is going to limit this industry severely

Yea. When?

But, you won’t be able to pass a joint around. Covid.

He's been saying this since he was campaigning for his first term. I'll believe it when I see it. I would LOVE to see this (vs higher property, fuel, income taxes) fuel the economy

That's so 2020...

It was legalized last January, what is the holdup?

You have to actually let the industry get started if you want it to fuel the economy.

How about we start with legalizing homegrow? 🧐
