Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced a $3,000 electric vehicle purchase subsidy, while $10 million will be invested to jointly fund charging stations:

Queenslanders will be offered a $3,000 subsidy if they buy an electric vehicle with a purchase price of less than $58,000 over the next three years.Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the policy, which will cost the government $15 million a year, on Wednesday morning.

"This announcement is a key part of our Zero Emission Vehicle Strategy: the goal is to reduce our emissions and reduce the impact of climate change."The $58,000 cap on the purchase price means the subsidy will only be available for buyers of six models: Hyundai's Ioniq and Kona model, Nissan's Leaf, MG's ZS Essence and BYD's new Atto models.

The Sunshine State has long had a less generous EV purchase incentives compared with other jurdisticions, offering buyers registration and stamp duty savings of about $350 over five years.Advocacy group Solar Citizens welcomed the subsidy because it would slash emissions and reduce the cost of living amid high fuel prices.

She said incentives for automakers to build EVs locally and commitments to electric public transport would help.

Window dressing! 1. New coal mines need to be banned 2. Coal/gas power stations need to be phased out ASAP 3. Renewable energy generation needs to be ramped up ASAP 4. Clean electricity-powered public transport needs to be expanded 1/2

About time. This is so 2015.

How are you going to charge the batteries without powerstations driven by fossil fuel ? How are you going to make solar panels without powerstations and more important how are you going to get rid of them when they rot out after ten years ?

When will governments realise that this type of subsidy DOES NOT WORK as intended? Just like the First Home Owners Grant, the greatest benefit will be to the seller.

$3,000 dollars of the starting base price of $ 42,000 with out on rd cost , family bmw suv ix starting price $156,000 to $189,000 for the sport version before on rd cost 3k does zip as I’ve been thinking of changing over for a while and started research

Xlnt!

Australia should be manufacturing our own electric vehicles. We have the iron ore, the lithium and all the engineering professionals required right here.

Make sure dealers/sellers won't increase prices.

About time. Finland gives free electric charging with parking. The US gives as much as US $7,500 depending on state. Mercedes gives first 30 minutes free charging for three years of ownership. Victoria wants to charge you 2.5 cents/kilometre to use your electric vehicle. Pfft.

Hardly generous
