The newly-formed anti-xenophobia group Kopanang Africa has launched an urgent application in the High Court in Johannesburg against the Johannesburg Metro Police Department for not granting it permission to march.
The group was supposed to march on Human Rights Day on Monday. It now says it has postponed the march to the 26th of this month.Dudula Movement’s violent evictions of undocumented foreign nationals. Kopanang Africa spokesperson, Ferron Pedro, says they are determined to exercise their right to marc.h “We are definitely challenging the authorities over our march. Lawyers have on our behalf launched a case against the JMPD and we are hoping it will be heard on Tuesday in the High Court in Johannesburg. We will be waiting for further details. But we plan to forge ahead. We don’t want to march on Monday under violent circumstances, we want to force the police to do their job. We’re simply move the march to the 26th of March, that’s next Saturday.
