Transport Department spokesperson Mike Maringa says the driver of the car was allegedly speeding and tried to overtake on a barrier line.
The driver and passenger died on the scene. Six other people were injured and taken to the Mankweng Hospital outside Polokwane.between two vehicles on R61 between Cradock and Takastad in the Eastern Cape. The vehicles – a car and a bakkie – were travelling from opposite directions when the collision happened.
The car had nine occupants while the driver of the bakkie was alone. The deceased were all in the car including the driver. The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital.
