Saikav Foods, a South African producer of canned foods, started selling 'dhal in a can' in London, today the company has added 12 more Indian canned foods to its offering and supplies to local retailers such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay & Spar | BISouthAfrica

Saikav Foods is a South African producer of pre-soaked, pre-boiled Indian food in a can.impressed, and wanted to bring the same product to South Africa.

"We started off as a side hustle. In fact, the idea was born on a train to Waterloo, even the name Saikav, is a combination of my daughters' names. We were at a relative's house the night before and my wife told my aunt that 'your nephew won't eat this because it comes out of a can'. After relocating in 2014, Saikav Foods became a proudly South African company that operates in various parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape, with 10 employees.

"After many years of trying, we managed to get listed at Shoprite Checkers sometime last year," Francis told Business Insider.
