The state’s inspections, which were conducted on every northbound commercial vehicle entering through Texas’ biggest ports of entry, were in addition to those already performed by federal customs authorities. The governor effectivelyFriday after reaching deals with his counterparts in the four Mexican states that share a border with Texas, but the disruption caused by the inspections will likely have lingering impacts.

Texas normally conducts mechanical inspections on trucks crossing into the U.S., but as part of Abbott’s order, state troopers inspected every truck for migrants and illegal drugs. U.S.

Bret Erickson, vice president of business affairs at Little Bear Produce in Edinburg, stands Thursday in front of an unusually empty warehouse floor where large shipments of watermelon typically would be.The delays caused by the state’s inspections are the latest blow to farmers and produce businesses in the Rio Grande Valley since 2020. Last year's winter freeze damaged. The pandemic forced companies to size down their workforce and implement virus mitigation strategies.

Most of the produce that crosses into the U.S. from Mexico comes through the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. It’s also where many car parts, electronics, types of medical equipment and other goods make their way across the border. “It affects us because we struggle to pay rent,” said Mouret, who pays $1,800 a month for the bodega at the terminal. His sales are down about 30% this week, he said, and it’s now going to be more difficult to afford car payments, personal rent and insurance.

While truckers waited at the bridge, Erickson’s loading dock, normally fully stocked with Mexican-grown watermelons this time of year, sat almost empty.

Don’t worry Abbott and his administration will pay for the damage by hitting Texans up for the money to fix their mistakes c

Because Greg Abbott is all about Greg Abbott. He could care less about farmers.

All this rotten stuff should be delivered to the Governor’s mansion in Austin.

Yet People of Texas keep voting for him and KenPaxtonTX

While wasting BILLIONS of our dollars

Abbott has screwed Texan's in every way. AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexasAgain txlege AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas AbbottFailedTexas no more room.

How many did they catch? 😅😂🤣

Abbott's accusations that Biden is dropping the ball at the border are false. Seizures of deadly fentanyl at the southern border are at record highs, and 1 million migrants were expelled last year under Biden's continued use of COVID-era health policy.

Isn't the same Greg Abbott who sent the National Guard to protect the ranches of his rich friends and called it 'border security'. Gerrymandering or not we should vote people who have policies for the voters not their rich friends.

Stop voting for these people.

🥑🥑🥑

Abbott doesn't care. To him, it's all about thumbing his nose at Joe Biden.

This impact was a drop in the bucket compared to all the federal shutdowns due to Covid but you didn't complain about those, and this shutdown worked. Now Mexico will pick up more of the burden of border security after the Federal government dropped the ball.

As much as Texans complain about fighting government tyranny, they sure do love to elect and reelect tyrants. We'd never put up with a governor pulling this kind of crap in California.

Curious, why is this only issue, the same process happens permanently in California, the California Highway Patrol CHP runs inspection facilities g border. They check all Commercial vehicles from Mexico, there doesn't seem to be any problem. Texas*

Abbot is hurting Texans out of spite. Please remember this when his term is up

Governor Abbott is running for a third term in 2022. Please learn about both of the candidates, register to vote, and go vote. Every vote matters!

When you see those empty shelves at HEB and ridiculously high prices in the months to come, thank Greg Abbott.
