Prominent Sydney businessman Richard Yuan is a long-time Liberal Party voter. But he's vowed to 'pack up and go' if Scott Morrison is re-elected as prime minister. Via sbscantonese:

More Chinese Australians are contemplating leaving Australia, according to a recent anti-racism survey

The Beijing native became an Australian citizen in 2001 at a time when it made his peers back at home envious. The long-time Liberal voter says this was the first time he had experienced a racial attack in Australia, an incident that he says has prompted him to think about his sense of belonging and purpose in Australia.

Chinese Australians represent about five per cent of the voting population, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.Mr Yuan joins a chorus of other Chinese Australians who are contemplating leaving Australia due to what they claim is a rise in racist attacks against the Chinese diaspora, and Asians who may appear Chinese.

He says politicians who are contributing to the anti-Chinese sentiment during the pandemic and in the lead-up to the federal election, are forgetting who their number one customer is. China’s anti-dumping tariffs have had significant impacts on the Australian bottled wine market since November 2020.“Diversification is not a slogan.”Of the racism survey respondents who said they were considering leaving Australia, over half indicated they would return to mainland China.“New Zealand doesn’t have as big of a conflict with China,” said Melbourne-based Chinese Australian Winny Li.

sbscantonese One one hand, we welcome the influx of capital from wealthy Chinese. But on the other hand the propaganda machine has been full on anti-Sino rhetorics. Aren’t we ungrateful bunch?

sbscantonese Bye

sbscantonese As an Australian I can say definitely Australians have always been racist, we were starting to improve, to grow up as a country until the Howard years and gradually the seeds of hate were sown once again. This saddens me deeply!

sbscantonese Couldn't believe it to be true from the comments here

sbscantonese Pack up and go where? Clown. HK or Shanghai, seem like fun!

sbscantonese don't slam the door on the way out

sbscantonese Viva democracy.

sbscantonese We need to stop importing millions of foreign people

sbscantonese As a “long time Liberal voter” you voted him in Mr. Yuan - choosing a party that has a record of encouraging and legislating discrimination against minorities in this country. You are fortunate to have the means to “pack up and go” if Morrison remains.
