Evraz has said the company is laying off 170 employees, but more are likely to be laid off.

Reiter contended in an interview on Friday the federal government is “doing every thing they can to not only kill pipelines, but the entire pipeline industry.”

The company has said while the overall business is strong, the large diameter pipe market has been soft. Oil companies in the country have struggled to build pipelines because of opposition from governments and what they believe are regulatory hurdles. The Leader-Post reached out to the federal Ministry of Natural Resources for comment but it did not respond by press deadline.

Reiter also took aim at the Saskatchewan NDP over pipelines, saying “you’ve got an anti-oil advocate running for the leadership of the provincial NDP right now,”While Harvey has said she wants to transition away from fossil fuels, she has noted she doesn’t want to put people out of jobs.
