Ashburn's Brett McKinnon captured his second straight Nova Scotia men’s amateur title at his home course on Sunday and joins Peter Hope, Graham MacIntyre, Gordie Smith and Gerry MacMillan as the only golfers to win back-to-back men’s amateur championships in the past 60 years. - NOVA SCOTIA GOLF ASSOCIATIONBrett McKinnon has reached rarified air in Nova Scotia amateur golf.

“To have your name in the same sentence as legends like those guys is a very cool feeling,” MacKinnon said in an interview Sunday evening. “It’s something I never thought of before but it’s really nice to hear.” McKinnon came into Sunday’s play at the 54-hole championship tied with four others, a stroke back of the four co-leaders. In fact, 10 players were within three shots of the pace on the crowded leaderboard.

It was unlike last year’s victory at Avon Valley when he entered the final round holding a five-shot lead and won convincingly by seven strokes. “And Owen, I have had the pleasure of playing with him quite often and I think he’s the most talented player we’ve had come out of Nova Scotia in a long time. He has all of the tools to take things to the next level. He's fun to watch.”
