When thinking about how to attract and retain young talent, one trait is key for managers in the workplace.

Against that backdrop, it's no surprise many managers and executives have been vexed by the youngest generation of the workforce — a cohort experts say is, on the whole, more vocal and socially conscious than their predecessors., campus recruiting senior manager for West Monroe Partners, a business and technology consulting firm with a digital focus.

With this new generation, they have a lot of options. They're entering a really amazing talent market. For us, it’s really showcasing our culture to them — really showcasing how they can grow and build us in the organization. You will have the exact same opportunity to interview and to get in front of the different folks here at West Monroe. I would say historically that was not the case. We would prioritize people we met at career fairs and people we met physically on campus versus people who maybe found us. It was unfortunately a biased way of how we went about it. Today, we have really removed that bias. I was surprised at how much they appreciated the opportunity to get together and to do things in person.

It’s about being really patient, and understanding that they're coming from a world where they did a couple of years of schooling in front of their computers and maybe at home. Every generation seems to have its own unique set of traits. What will be some unique traits about Gen Z that jumped out as they continue to emerge in the workplace?
