Baker Hughes will restructure its business and shake up leadership.

. A spokesperson for Baker Hughes said the company is not disclosing additional exits at this time. The changes are effective at the beginning of October.

The company said Maria Claudia Borras will lead the Oil field Services and Equipment segment, while Rod Christie will lead the Industrial and Energy Technology segment. Both have served in similar roles since 2017. Jim Apostolides, who has been with Baker Hughes for 23 years, will fill a new role as senior vice president of enterprise operational excellence, the company said.

The restructuring means some non-executive jobs will be eliminated, according to the spokesperson, but the company doesn’t expect those reductions to be a significant part of the workforce. Baker Hughes did not disclose how many of those reductions would be in Houston, but said it's a global reorganization and is not directly focused on the Bayou City.

Overall, the world's largest oil field services companies are making different bets on how fast the transition to clean energy will take place as they also navigate the uncertainty of the oil industry. Baker Hughes has positioned itself as an energy technology company, while rivals Schlumberger and Halliburton have continued to focus on drilling and production.During the second quarter of the year, Baker Hughes found itself with more exposure to Russia than its peers.

Back in 2019, Baker Hughes announced its transformation to an energy technology company, changing its branding to reflect the company’s net-zero carbon goal.
