Sarawak govt studies merging 4 water authorities into one, says Abang Jo

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg says the Sarawak government is studying a plan to merge the Rural Water Supply Department, Kuching Water Board, Sibu Water Board and Laku Management Sdn Bhd as one single entity. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, October 18, 2022.

Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said this study involved the merger of the Rural Water Supply Department, Kuching Water Board, Sibu Water Board and Laku Management Sdn Bhd. Abang Johari said that Sarawak has many water resources including lakes, apart from the Bakun and Murum dams, therefore it is important to create a regulatory body.

“Within the context of demographic growth, increased competition for water and improved attention to environmental issues, water for food remains a core issue that can no longer be addressed through a narrow sectoral approach.”
