When influential grocer Whole Foods Market Inc. summons your company to make a product, saying no is out of the question.
Tacodeli began selling three salsas exclusively with Whole Foods Market in 2017 — now the Austin-based company manufactures and sells eight products in three food categories: salsas and dips, tortilla chips and its latest product, tortillas, which began landing on store shelves in early October. The tortillas are refrigerated and sold both cooked and raw, as the recipes don’t use any preservatives.
Before taking a new product across all of its existing partnership stores, Tacodeli tests the market in the Southwest division, consisting of 47 Whole Foods Markets in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. The company first tests its products for performance near its base, Day said. Sales in the CPG market have doubled in the past 18 months and the goal is to continue on that trajectory, Day added. The plan is for Tacodeli products to be sold in thousands of stores over the next couple of years, he said.
