Late-stage Alzheimers trials from Genentech/Roche fail; company pauses enrollment in prevention study with same drug

An experimental drug that Genentech Inc. and parent company Roche had hoped would clear away clumps of proteins in the brains of Alzheimer's Disease patients failed two late-stage clinical trials.

Gantenerumab, Genentech's monoclonal antibody, had failed a previous Phase III study with Genentech drug-discovery partner MorphoSys. The trials focused on people with mild cognitive impairment due to Alzheimer's and with mild Alzheimer's dementia.
