In our top story this morning, TDs have been told that there needs to be more investment made in healthcare provision for trans people

Stock photo Image: Shutterstock/Photographee.eu CLINICIANS WITH THE National Gender Service have told TDs and Senators that more funding and resources are needed for healthcare services for transgender people in Ireland.

The speakers included Professor Donal O’Shea, a consultant endocrinologist with the NGS, Dr Ian Schneider, a psychiatrist with the NGS and Professor Fiona McNicholas, who works as a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at CHI Crumlin. It is understood there was a disagreement about waiting lists during the meeting, with the clinicians telling politicians that there is a three-year waiting list for initial referrals.

“I welcome the core message delivered by the clinicians present- that trans healthcare in this country needs further funding and resources and that the service should be expanded,” Hourigan told The Journal. Ruadhán added that he believed there was a lot of support from politicians who attended the meeting, and that he wanted to see more action.

More funding is needed in the system for normal people also.

Money for clinicians .

But Trans already have the same care as the rest of us. Just because they feel different today should not mean they get special healthcare.

More resources and funding is needed for all healthcare full stop .
