They were issued with letters revoking their appointments as markers after some learners were allegedly found in possession of crib notes during an examination in the Bushbuckridge area.
This was because for the first time in the province, more than 71 500 candidates registered to write the matric examinations. The department also applauded itself for administering incident free examinations for the past twelve years. However, they have now been dealt a heavy blow. Chairperson of the Mdluli Seconday School Governing Body, Petros Sibuyi says they are not happy with the manner in which the matter is being handled by the Education Department.
Apparently, some of them are accused of being involved in the cheating scandal. But the South African Democratic Teachers Union believes that its members are innocent.
