Crowley has contract extended while follow-on bid protested

The area's largest government contractor has had its contract with the Navy's Military Sealift Command extended while the military sorts through a protest related to the job.

In August, the Department of Defense announced that Ocean Shipholdings would take over the job in December, with the Houston-based company receiving a $53.96 million contract to operate and maintain the transportation auxiliary general ocean surveillance and transportation auxiliary general missile range instrumentation ships.

Before Ocean Shipholdings could begin the work, though, the contract award was protested, leading the government to put a stay on the award, with the Military Sealift Command re-evaluating the six offers it received for the follow-on contract.
