Emergency stay issued by Federal Court will remain until agency's application for stay, injunction are heardA woman holds two cellphones showing the Rogers and Shaw company logos in this photo illustration March 29, 2021, in Chelsea, Que.The federal agency says the suspension will remain in place until its application for a stay and an injunction is heard.
The injunction would block the deal from closing until the Bureau's full appeal of the decision, rendered on Thursday, is heard. The Tribunal said in its ruling that the merger was not likely to result in higher prices for wireless customers and that it was satisfied a plan to sell Shaw's Freedom Mobile to Quebecor Inc.'s Videotron was adequate to ensure competition isn't substantially reduced.
The Bureau had sought to block the merger and in its appeal argues that the Tribunal acted outside of its jurisdiction in a "rush to judgment."Competition Tribunal paves way for Rogers-Shaw mergerThe federal Competition Tribunal has cleared the way for Rogers' merger with Shaw Communications, stipulating that the acquisition can only proceed if Shaw sells its wireless division Freedom Mobile to Quebec-based Videotron.
If the Tribunal's decision stands, the merger will only require the approval of federal Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne to go ahead. Champagne said Saturday that he will wait until there is "clarity" in the ongoing legal process before issuing a decision.

What? Did someone look up the definition of competition?
mgeist Smoke and mirrors. Only a cheap deflection from the REAL competition, or rather, the complete lack thereof. No competition…it’s all fixed. Liars. USA needs to get in here! Verizon, Consumer Cellular, and more.. What corruption is holding this back, and holding us all hostage?
Oh but I was looking forward to an even bigger Rogers service blackout
