The story of Ben Barres — Stanford neurobiologist, transgender man, biotech founder and activist — could be heading to the big screen

It was the summer after then-Harvard president

Barres, who died at 63 in 2017 from pancreatic cancer, had penned an editorial centering on Summers' comments for the scientific journal Nature in 2006. Its title:"Does Gender Matter?" when she learned about Barres. Green was leaning toward a series of stories"about people who do amazing things in history who people don't know about."In Barres' autobiography,"The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist," Green found a story rich with struggles and victories, disappointments and dreams.
