The past year has seen alarming food price hikes, and while some of the reasons behind the price shocks have subsided, some foodstuffs may remain expensive.

The latest inflation data, released on Wednesday, showed that prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages were 12.4% higher than a year ago. This is only slightly down from 12.5% in November. Bread and cereal prices rose by more than 20% in the year to December, while oils and fats were also much more expensive.
