Australia is set to rapidly splash up to $1 billion for major new underwater weaponry including sea mines as the government plans for a “shift” in conflict preparation.

Part of the up to $1 billion acquisition from a yet-to-be confirmed European supplier will be high-tech sea mines which can be remotely activated and deactivated, according to theThe Department confirmed in a statement that it was “accelerating the acquisition of smart sea mines” and said the new technology would “help to secure sea lines of communication and protect Australia's maritime approaches”.

Offer ends 31 October, 2023 Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government would soon respond to the Defence Strategic Review where there would likely be a rapid shift in preparation for new conflict arenas.

“So, for example, a shift from where we were perhaps focused on land conflict in areas that we might or we mightn't need.“We have looked at missile defence, for example, we're looking at cybersecurity, we're looking at all of these issues.”

Great that will stop those Missiles and Planes who's brilliant idea💡 is this.🙄

I’m pretty sure that China (and the US, Russia, etc) would have technologies to avoid hitting underwater mines or at least detonating them way ahead of one of their vessel coming near them 🤔🤔

All this while still trying to please China in the trade wars. Doesn’t make sense.

This is so overdue. I hope they'll be precision air-delivered too.

Why use an image of an on-water vessel for a story about underwater weaponry?

Out hard earned Taxes are wasted. We are paying lucrative taxes on bonuses, superannuation and salary. Nothing is left. PAYG must be stopped and all work in ABN.
