Shipyards roundup: Four Seasons moves ahead

After years of discussion and progress, Downtown Investment Authority CEO Lori Boyer said she is certain the hotel will be a Four Seasons. The hotel is named in the incentive package Iguana Investment has signed with the city, and developers will not receive a part of the city’s incentive package if the brand isn’t involved.

Earlier this year, the original completion date of December 2025 was extended to June 2026 by city council because the bulkhead is being privately developed. Meanwhile, the DIA is looking at designs for the 10-acre Shipyards West Park being designed by Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Agency Landscape + Planning. In July, the city's Professional Services Evaluation Committee approved spending $1.8 million for the design. There is $5 million slated for the park project in the city's Capital Improvement Plan.

“Moving staff could facilitate renovations, but they don’t in any way have any kind of commitment or decision on it,” Boyer said. “There are different pieces that could come online much sooner. I think you could have at least phase 1 or the entire Shipyards West Park completed before you have the Four Seasons open.”
