The offender – Mark Christopher Raymer, 39 – worked for the Katzens as a sales manager and bookkeeper.Raymer was sentenced on Jan. 10 in New Brunswick provincial court in Moncton to 18 months for fraud over $5,000 and ordered to pay $21,141 in restitution. "We had also hoped that he would be sentenced sooner, as this whole bad experience has been going on for way more than what we had anticipated," said Katzen. In 2018, Raymer was sentenced in P.E.I. Supreme Court to a total of six months in jail for two counts of fraud. In August 2020, Raymer was sentenced again in P.E.I. Supreme Court to a total of two years in federal prison for defrauding $34,238.10 from GNF Investments in Bedford, N.S., and $26,574.

Katzen said that Raymer committed the fraud by giving himself 59 refunds to his credit card account and then creating fake credit notes to cover the transactions. About $20,000 of the total fraud involved credit card refunds, said Katzen. The remaining $150,000 of the total fraud amount was the result of Raymer manipulating spreadsheets, invoices and prices, including mainly selling products below cost in order to keep receiving a monthly commission, said Katzen.
