With virtahealth deal, BlueShieldCA opens another door for hundreds of thousands of its members to potentially reverse type2diabetes telemedicine

"Our plan and goal always has been it shouldn't matter who pays; you should have access to Virta and diabetes reversal," Inkinen said.

Virta's results through Blue Shield of California since 2019 have been impressive, according to the organizations: Members' insulin dosages were reduced by nearly 70%, members saw an average weight loss of 7% and a common blood sugar test showed a 1.1% improvement. "We have three years of history with them," Inkinen said about the insurer."They wanted to see it work clinically. They wanted to see a good member experience. And they wanted to see that it made good economic sense."
