North American companies struggling to hire workers in the tightest labor market in decades brought on more robots last year than ever before, with many earmarked for new electric vehicle and battery factories under construction.

Burnstein said there was a visible slowdown in orders at the end of the year, which raises a question about how 2023 will evolve. "The fourth quarter was really propped up by the strength in the auto industry," he said. "We saw a falling-off in non-automotive" orders.

Supply chain problems may also have distorted last year's results. Burnstein said robot makers saw some customers place extra orders during the COVID-19 health crisis - just to ensure they would get part of what they needed.More than half of last year's orders came from automakers and their suppliers - a group that has long led the way in automation of U.S. factories.

Most robots ordered last year will be used for material handling - an expansive category that includes all types of movement and handling of goods inside factories and warehouses. Next up are "auditor" jobs. Machines in the Crawfordsville plant spit out new caps faster than a machine gun, so workers called auditors currently sit in small booths along the line, constantly checking that specifications are met.

Wow..☆☆☆

More robots and less people, is't it cool? Who is gonna buy something if no body works?

The future of basic labor is robotics. Someday soon, humans will no longer be needed to perform basic labor

르네상스이되 르네상스가 아니다

Seems the whole world is facing the same problem, so, the world is rich enough to feed all the low level people now.

Good. Automate all jobs that can be automated.

Just like all free Americans, they should be free to open carry weapons. Arm the robots!

Too cheap to pay a living wage because executive staff need 100 million a year to survive lol.

Who is gonna buy what the robots are producing? The robots ?

ca devient n'importe quoi

I bet that's a pain in the ass to deep clean.

Imagine we had this 'problem' in South Africa

Pay more and the shortage is gone...

Farm production should be is next.

Where were the robots made?

There is no shortage of workers, only wages 😡

Maybe it was the drive thru worker SHOT & KILLED. Parent says no way are you taking that job after school.

Two man job to run a McDonald’s in a busy city ! I know ! I did it ! Greed is everywhere and it needs to be breed out

Liars ! They just need an excuse to go automatic

JUST PAY THEM A LIVABLE WAGE INSTEAD OF KICKSTARTING SKYNET

Soon!

So they're gonna pass the savings on to customers, right? Right?

More of this please

How many fries is the robot going to buy?

Predictions put to use through limited choices

Gotta give the fryer basket a little shake....

Now I can’t get “The Machine” music from the early WB cartoons out of my head. 🎵

BuT iMmIgRaNtS aRe StEaLiNg OuR jObS.

idk about everyone else but i'd rather starve than eat robot-made food. Talk about processed.

Increasing the number of robots and reducing the number of jobs can allow more workers to lower their income requirements and reduce the pressure on companies' rising labor costs!

So more workers are needed to build the robots...

It’s going to be so funny when all the people who cheer this on realize they’ll have no one to yell at when their order is inevitably wrong and the one avenue of feeling powerful they have is gone

Robots actually work, don't act a fool, and aren't rude with customers

Or... just pay people better wages?

Well we have 4M new resident's, they prolly need a job... not including the able bodied Americans who refuse to work

'North American companies that refuse to pay employees a living wage and are now struggling to hire workers bought on more robots last year than ever before'
