CSX reaches sick leave agreement with two more unions

CSX has agreed to give sick leave to workers in two more unions, bringing the total to four unions that have sick leave agreements with the railroad company.

The change allows for four paid sick days, as well as the option to convert up to three personal days into sick days. If any days are not used as sick time, employees can contribute them to their 401, or can pay it out at the end of the year. The two new deals are similar to the earlier ones, with workers being given four days of sick time and are allowed to use three personal days for illnesses as well. The workers themselves did not have to give anything to receive the benefits,“CSX is very much committed to the wellbeing of all of our employees and their families," Hinrichs said in a statement.

Sick leave was a major sticking point during the most recent industrywide contract negotiations, in which a strike was averted only when the White House and, later, Congress stepped in after talks broke down.
